	The Neapolitan dialect, in which most of these fishermen's and boatmen's songs are written, is so difficult to translate, literally and at the same time rhythmically, that the latter has many times to be sunk in the endeavour to accomplish the former. This song of " The Fairy of Amain " may be ■ taken as a very fair specimen of the watermen's ditties of Italy.
